Started a New Piece

Here's a new piece I started, It's about nine hours in and has no armature so it can be fired. It'll have to remain pretty rough as I'll only be able to attend two more sessions with the model.

A Piece from Three Years Ago

My colleague, ceramacist Ken Turner, just acquired a light tent for the studio and I've been documenting some older work. This is a piece some of you may remember from almost three years ago. I still like the flow, but can see so many things I'd do differently now.

Well, I Think It's Done...

Here are a few photos of "Selena. As usual, the hands are made of plasticine as the fingers dry out quickly when sculpted from water clay. That's why they are a different color from the rest of the sculpture:

Another Male Figure In Progress

I've been working on two standing male figures this quarter. Here is the second one. He's got a long way to go, but finally got traction after a rough start. Unfortunately, we only have two weeks left with the model!

Here's a little something I recently started. He's about 22" tall and definitely still in progress.

Drawing Jam 2012

The Gage Academy in Seattle has an annual all-day open house called Drawing Jam. There are live models and live music in all of the studios as well as food, drink and lots of old friends. Here is a little sculpture I did there today. It took about 3.5 hours.

There is no armature except for a paper cup inside the base and bamboo skewers to support the torso and limbs. When it dries, I'll treat it with terra sigillata and fire it. The cup will burn out.
