Drawing Jam '13

The Gage Academy held their annual open house and "Drawing Jam" this weekend. For those who haven't been, it's 12 hours of fun for the entire family. There are models, activities and live music in all of the studios, food, cocktails and even free art supplies!

This small clay sketch took an hour to complete under  comically distracting circumstances. After 10 minutes of work, a musical ensemble entered the (small) room with  a drum set, microphone etc. Their entourage squeezed between me and the wall; looming over my shoulder as I worked. Luckily, I had earplugs.

Started a New Piece

Here's a new piece I started, It's about nine hours in and has no armature so it can be fired. It'll have to remain pretty rough as I'll only be able to attend two more sessions with the model.

A Piece from Three Years Ago

My colleague, ceramacist Ken Turner, just acquired a light tent for the studio and I've been documenting some older work. This is a piece some of you may remember from almost three years ago. I still like the flow, but can see so many things I'd do differently now.

Well, I Think It's Done...

Here are a few photos of "Selena. As usual, the hands are made of plasticine as the fingers dry out quickly when sculpted from water clay. That's why they are a different color from the rest of the sculpture:

Another Male Figure In Progress

I've been working on two standing male figures this quarter. Here is the second one. He's got a long way to go, but finally got traction after a rough start. Unfortunately, we only have two weeks left with the model!
